About

Sabrina Baker, PHR:
I stumbled upon HR by accident and decided to stay.  Eleven years later I can not imagine doing anything else.  I have spent time in the retail, healthcare and customer relationship management environments.  While I enjoy many aspects of HR, I am personally motivated by the way communication can affect a person, event or outcome.  I strongly believe in open, honest communication and the importance of building relationships in the workplace.  I also believe that HR is the driver, catalyst and role model for positive workplace interactions.  I know how to walk the tightrope between meeting the needs of the employee’s while moving the business forward.  It is a balancing act and one I enjoy.

Acacia HR Solutions:

In 2011 I started my own consulting firm, Acacia HR Solutions.  Focusing on the full employee life cycle, I offer services from recruitment to outplacement and everything in between.  I love the symbolism of a tree going through the seasons and how that relates to an employee throughout their career.  It just so happens Acacia is the name of the street I grew up on, so it works on both a personal and professional level.

The real work happens at home however, where I am the wife to one man and raising another.  My husband and I live outside of Chicago with our son who we affectionately call “B”.

HR Chatterbox:

I spent the last seven years of my career in a call center environment.  Those years are where I learned the most, grew the most and enjoyed my HR role the most.  Chatterbox is a spin on that experience.  A call center can certainly sound like a chatterbox and even an introvert like me can learn to be energized by the sound.  Much of my writing is content drawn from that experience.  HR Chatterbox is my sophomore blog and even though the look and feel is different the content remains the same.  All things HR will be discussed with special attention given to leadership, communication and building relationships.
